Probus Club of Sorrento, Victoria; “Sorrento Probus.”

A very warm welcome to our Probus Club of Sorrento website.

Our Probus Club was formed on the 19th of April 1986, sponsored by Rotary, as a Men’s Club. Wives/partners and later; widows of late members, attended as guests of the Club.

In 2007, our then President formed a committee for a membership review. As a result, in August of that year, we inducted 44 lady members, mainly members’ wives, partners and the widows of previous members.

As a mixed Club, we were then able to attract the baby boomers, who preferred to join as couples, and as well, single women.

So, what is Probus and what can joining our Club do for you?

A Probus Club is basically a social Club for the over 55’s. We draw new members from the Mornington Peninsula, in the main, from Safety Beach through to Sorrento.

Probus gives retirees and semi-retirees the regular opportunity to keep their minds active, expand their activities and interests, and promoting new fellowship with newly made friends.

When do we meet?

Our Club meets on the third Thursday of the month at the Rye Hotel (located below). Times are 9:30am onwards, for a 10:00am start. We break for morning tea around 10:30am; our Guest Speaker commences at 11:00am and the meeting ends around noon. After the meeting, some members lunch together at the hotel.

What do we do?

We arrange Guest Speakers, who we believe will be of interest to the majority of members, endeavouring to engage in their experience and expertise. Some speak on health and social issues and our peninsula’s environment. Others, on legal matters, pet health, authors about their books just to mention a few.

As for activities, we arrange dine outs, outings and trips away. We also have small interest groups who meet during the month at members’ homes. There is a monthly happy hour, a music appreciation group, craft group, a book group, a walking group, a morning coffee group and in time, you may wish to introduce an activity yourself.

Peace of Mind

Each Probus Club is covered by a National Insurance Program set up by Probus South Pacific, which covers members, visitors and their guests, while attending or participating in a recognised Probus activity, function or meeting.
